Field Marshal KM Cariappa – First Indian Chief of Indian Army

  Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa OBE was the principal Indian Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Army (28 January 1899–15 May 1993). During the 1947 Indo-Pakistani War, he told Indian powers on the Western Front. In 1949, he was named Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
